A Visit to Genting Highlands
The Genting Highlands is one of the sumptuous hill stations and popular vacation spots in Malaysia. We originally planned to get there by bus but since we missed our departure we decided to hire a GRAB car to our destination. The GRAB costs just 121 RM and it was super convienient given the amount of road blocks and traffic during the weekday morning commute. Located roughly 45 minutes away from the capital city of Kuala Lumpur even folks from Singapore flock to the “Vegas Style” mountain frequently for a little family fun.
However, travelers like me tend to gravitate to the Highlands because of its beauty and nature. This hill station not only consists of multiple resorts, hotels, a casino, indoor and outdoor parks, bazaars, and shopping malls, but also some of the most stunning and iconic views in all of the land. Here you’ll undoubtedly discover, majestic mountains ranges, rolling hills, plenty of greenery, an array of florals, beautifully manicured gardens and roadsides, and of course you’ll experience your fair share of having your head in the clouds.
Perhaps, if you are planning a visit Genting Highlands, then here are some of the most interesting things we found to do.
Awana Skyway Cable Car
Gather your friends and family to experience the most scenic and exciting cable car journey. You can have the finest view of the Genting Highland from the top. To elevate the thrill of the whole experience you can even grab a ticket for the glass floor cable car.
We always opt for the glass floor cable car because the line seems shorter being as though the ticket is slightly more expensive.
Once inside you can relish the magnificent view of the dense treetops of Genting. The 10 minutes glass floor cable car ride will start from Awana Station to SkyAvenue Station so if you are taking a car then you’ll want to input Awana Station as your destination.
Throughout the journey we enjoyed the panoramic view, breathing the clean and crisp mountain air and the overall feeling of being in nature and in the clouds.
Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park
Have you ever imagined to experience a suspended rollercoaster, souring Viking rides, a ferris wheel and drop tower ride all indoors?
One of the topmost attractions in Genting is the Skytropolis theme park. This 40,000 square feet park offers 20 impressive rides that are admired by both the young and the young at heart.
The only downside of this indoor theme park is that it might be be really hard to remove your children as the sweet smells, bright lights, animated music, and playful noises of the BIG TOP can be quite addictive. The the games and rides are both thrill seeking and fun and everything was moderately priced making it an economical day away as well. There’s something for the entire family, from interactive virtual reality video gaming area called THE VOID where you can travel beyond reality to see, smell, and touch the impossible, thrill rollercoasters as well as easygoing carnival rides, SNOW WORLD if frolicking in the snow is your thing, the SENIKOME PENG HENG, an arts and cultural center which allows you to explore the beauty of East Coast Malaysia and beyond, GENTING BOWL, A black light bowling alley, great for small and larger families for a few hours of physical fun, tons of restaurants and bakeshops, all overlooked by four floors of lucrative shopping options.
Ivy and I spent roughly 130 RM on a day pass to enjoy the unlimited theme park rides. There’s also the famous Din Ti Fung, a world famous Taiwanese restaurant we discovered in Taiwan with wonderful food, although this one was good the original was way better!
Chin Swee Cave Temple
It is one of the topmost places to visit in Genting Highlands. You will reach the temple on your way to Sky Avenue Station as it’s the first stop before actually reaching your final destination and best of all it’s FREE! We spent over an hour taking in the views, walking the road to redemption, and reading about the 10 Chambers of Hell and the virtues of “good living”.
The Chin Swee Temple was built in honor of Reverend Master Chin Swee who was a Buddhist Monk. It is stated by the locals that the Monk has mystical abilities to dispel evil spirits and summon rain.
Perhaps, dedicate anywhere from 2 hours to a half day of your itinerary to explore this temple as it has many things to offer you. You can either move down the cave to seek blessing and prayers. You can even wash your face in the holy water that flows inside the caves from the steep mountains.
Moreover, don’t forget to visit the terrace where you can spot baby turtles and Koi fish in the pond. Lastly, take a picture in front of the majestic 9 story pagoda which will wrap up and capture the memory of this highly informative yet psychologically chilling place perfectly.
Resorts World Genting Casino
Lastly, if you want to have some adult fun, then head to the Resorts World Genting Casino. This casino has a little bit of everything that you will love under one roof. They are open 24 hours for electronic games and you enjoy live gaming from 12 pm to 6 am.
However, there are some strict policies that you will have to maintain if you wish to enter. They search your bag and belonging and if you are below 25 years then you will have to show your valid Photo ID.
There are multiple entertainment sources in the Resort World Casino, such as the sports bar, 40 e-gaming terminals, high stakes area, and even a Live DJ. So, if you are a casino person then this place is nothing but paradise for you.
